You’re Not Broken. Do This If You Actually Want Change - Tunde Awosika, The Attachment Style Coach

The Weekly Newsletter

Most people I talk to aren’t confused about what their attachment style is. They’re exhausted by how much power it still has over their decisions.

They think they’re behind. Too old. Too single. Too deep into a relationship that feels misaligned but familiar. They assume transformation is something that should have happened earlier, with a different partner, under better circumstances. So they wait. For clarity. For confidence. For the right moment.

That moment doesn’t come.

Here’s the part people don’t like hearing but need to: changing your attachment style is not about insight. It’s about action while you still feel unsure. You stay stuck because you’re emotionally attached to a future outcome instead of committing to the behaviors that actually move you there.

You keep forecasting how you’ll feel once it works instead of doing the uncomfortable things that create change. Setting boundaries that might upset someone. Leaving dynamics that drain you. Choosing yourself without waiting for permission or reassurance.

Fear keeps you operating at half capacity. You brace for losses that haven’t happened yet, so you never fully step in. And for some of you, the past has become a shield. Not because it still controls you, but because letting it go would mean taking responsibility for what comes next.

No one is coming to rescue you from this pattern. There’s no perfect partner or explanation that fixes it for you.

Transformation starts when you decide you have power now. Not later. Not once things calm down. Now.

And the moment you act like that’s true, everything begins to shift.

You convince yourself that if you could just sit down one more time and hear the truth from the other person, everything would finally make sense. That’s the closure trap. Most people think closure is about clarity, but it’s really about comfort. You want the other person to walk you through what happened so you don’t...

Finally, Break the Anxious Preoccupied Script I want to talk about something small that feels big. You say the thing. The vulnerable thing. It doesn’t even have to be dramatic. It could be as simple as, “Hey, that bothered me,” or “Can we talk about something?” And then the response comes back… neutral. Not mean. Not explosive. Just not what your body was hoping for. If you’re being honest, that’s the moment everything shifts. Your chest tightens. Your brain starts scanning. You replay your...

Why are anxious and avoidants so drawn to each other? People love to say anxious and avoidant partners are a terrible match. And yet, they keep finding each other. Not accidentally. Not randomly. There is a reason the pull feels real before it feels painful. A big part of it is trait admiration. You are drawn to qualities your nervous system does not naturally hold. Anxious people often admire how avoidants seem grounded, self directed, and emotionally contained. They are not overthinking...
